The locals here are known as
the Batak people, which is the
collective term used to identify a
number of ethnic groups namely
the Karo, Pakpak, Simalungun,
Toba, Angkola and Mandailing
which are related to each other
as the Batak Tribe but with
their own distinct languages
and customs. These groups are
predominantly found in North
Sumatra, Indonesia.
