The Minister of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia Message
Geographical location and topography of Indonesia makes it rich in
diversity both in nature and culture. Spread widely from Sabang to
Merauke, it goes hand in hand with local wisdom as the identity of the
Indonesian people and creates what we call paradise in the world.
In the hands of skilled professional photographers, they were captured
through camera lenses and displayed beautifully on this photobook,
attempting to expose the other side of paradise, apart from Bali which
has already been famous and recognized as the world’s best travel
destinations.
These new destinations are known as “10 New Bali”, set by Indonesia’s
President, Mr. Joko Widodo, as a program to replicate the economic
effects of tourism in Bali nationally. It includes Lake Toba, Tanjung
Kelayang, Borobudur Temple, Wakatobi Island, Morotai Island, Tanjung Lesung, Dr. Ir. Arief Yahya, M.Sc
Thousands Island and Old Town of Jakarta, Mt. Bromo-Tengger- Semeru, Mandalika, Minister of Tourism of
and Labuan Bajo. the Republic of Indonesia
However, all 10 destinations have their own unique offerings, from yachting and diving
in places such as Labuan Bajo to cultural experiences at world-renowned heritage
sites such as Borobudur. For those who are crazy about food, each destinations
have their speciality food, such as Gudeg, Ayam Taliwang, Papeda, and many more.
You would not want to skip Nasi Goreng and Satay either.
As Indonesia set target of welcoming 20 million foreign tourists by 2019, this plan
of developing 10 New Bali is supported by additional flights, particularly by low-
cost carriers, with newly built international airport, such as Silangit Airport in Lake
Toba (operated by Air Asia with flight route Kuala Lumpur – Silangit) and HAS
Hananjoeddin Airport in Tanjung Kelayang, Belitung (operated by Garuda Indonesia
with flight route Singapore – Belitung).
Investments are also required to support the development of “10 New Bali”, especially
for its infrastructure. Along with collaborations of various local authorities, Ministry
of Tourism created Special Economic Zones to lure more investment and enhance
the ease of doing business in those destinations. We believe tourism is the key to
development, prosperity and happiness. Tourism is also the easiest and cheapest
contributor to GDP, foreign exchange and employment.
I appreciate Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Singapore for the initiative
to launch this photobook, and thank you to all photographers and parties who
contributed and supported the creation of this photobook.
Finally, I hope this book can provide great impression about the beauty of “10 New
Bali”, which will also have an impact to the image of Indonesia as a world class
tourist destination. It is also expected that “10 New Bali” will be increasingly known
to the world and boost foreign tourist arrivals to Indonesia.
Greetings from WONDERFUL INDONESIA…!!!
